Millie's Lewis and Clark bicentennial ball gown

Millie received an invitation to a ball in Louisville, KY in honor of the Lewis and Clark bicentennial later this October and this is the dress she plans to wear. The material is a beautiful dual tone rayon satin, that has been wrinkled lengthwise by the manufacturer. The shine was hard to capture in a photo. The satin flows and drapes well, due to the high rayon content, and also came in a uncrinkled version. The two colors are a peacock blue and purple. The front bodice shows a piece of purple satin and the sleeve is two layered. I made 2 belts for Millie to wear with this, one purple, one of the crinkle satin. The fabric does all the magic here, so besides a little lace around the neckline, there's no other trim.
The belt is only pinned on in my pictures, Millie will tack it on once she wears the dress. The tacks will allow the belt, stiffened with a belt liner, to be removed for cleaning. The belts close in the back with a big pant hook.
I also made a shawl which is reversible and a matching sackpurse to compliment the dress. I can't wait to see a picture of Millie in this outfit, it's very stunning.
Here is Millie at the event. This dress was a full success. I want to take the opportunity to thank Millie and all the others I have worked for over the years for sending pictures of themselves, it's a great finish to every project to see the final outcome.
