JASNA 2004- Los Angeles
I decided to make a special page for the 2004 agm of JASNA in LA because I actually had the opportunity to attend myself, albeit as Bibi's companion and not a registered JASNA member. So my friend Bibi wasn't the only one to go and therefor the pics shouldn't be on her page only. The entire weekend was a big treat for me, as we not only stayed at the historic Biltmore Hotel downtown but I also got to meet another customer of mine, Kathleen and her husband George. George was so kind to take advantage of every photo op out there and actually shot several pictures of me and Kathy as well as Bibi with us all dressed up.
The historic Biltmore was built in 1923 and hosted the 1937 Oscar ceremonies. It is a truly stunning and awesome place to stay. I couldn't help but take a few pictures to post here. The ballroom hosting the 1937 Oscar dinner was the one that also hosted our JASNA banquet. After the banquet there was a costume parade down to the hotel's "basement", because the Biltmore bowl room was the only one large enough to host the Regency line dancing that followed at the ball.
The Hotel's Grand entry hall, which probably used to be the original Lobby is my personal thinking, with it's magnificent arched wood ceiling. To the right is the Galleria, a long, marble floored hallway in the back of the Hotel, leading to all the ballrooms, elevators, etc. Below is the spiral staircase that Alfred Hitchcock used in one of his films. I went all the way to the top to take this picture and leaning over the rail to take it made me dizzy......purpose achieved! lol
The night this picture was taken we all headed out for dinner and after to enjoy a Regency play at the LA Public Library close to the Hotel. The play was called "School of Scandal". Kathy wears the 1910's gown I made for her wedding early this year and Bibi sparkles in a Powder blue and celery green brocade Regency gown. It was very special for me, because I got to see some of my gowns all fleshed out. Since most of my business is long distance, this doesn't happen too often! The pic was taken by George.
George took this picture of Kathy and me at the Ball, Saturday night. Kathy wears the chocolate brown crepe gown I made for her and I am wearing a white georgette gown with inset front squares and an impossible long train , which buttons up to the side for dancing. I don't know what I was thinking with that train...lol
The very regal looking Bibi at the ball, wearing a fabulous feathered headpiece she made herself at the Turban workshop sparkling in a ball gown we puzzled together 2 weeks before the event!
Bibi wearing her pink ball gown from the 2002 event for Thursday night. We had sandwhiches at "Phillippe's", the oldest and original sandwhich place in town, as far as I remember. The evening was all about places in LA that existed in Jane Austen's time.
Gosh, some people look good even when they have a night gown on. Bibi hosted one of the Jane 'n Jammie parties at the Hotel Thursday night and about 10 minutes after I shot this pic the room was filled with ladies and gents in 1810's sleep wear discussing all kinds of interesting aspects of Jane Austen's books.
An evening in the "...company of clever, well-informed people, who have a great deal of conversation..."
Elegant folk attending the Gala and dance
Bibi in a pinkish green silk dupioni with insets and brocade bodice. Yum! This was taken at the Huntington Library, the first day of the conference.
Bibi and I after we had sandwhiches at Phillippe's. Please excuse the modern day beverage container..........My dress is a 1910's themed dinner gown and Bibi wears hear pink ballgown from the 2002 AGM.
