The Titanic Deck dress.....
The deck dress stands for the gown Rose wore when strolling with Jack on deck of First Class and checking out his drawings. So far I have made 2 versions of this gown, one belonging to a customer of mine, Julie, who sent a picture of herself wearing it below. The constructions is fairly simple, but, as always, with the Titanci gowns, finding the right materials can be impossible. So you must be prepared to accept substitutions.
The embroidery on the sleeves and bodice was hand done in rayon floss.
I got to meet Julie in person and she is a sweet, young at heart lady. Doesn't she look awesome?
This is the version I made for myself to wear in LA. It has worked out for me that I am able to attend this years (2004) JASNA annual meeting in Los Angeles and I plan to wear this gown to dinner one of the nights I'm there.
I opted to leave off the belt, there was not enough time to do hand embroidery and I used embroidered organza instead, for bodice and sleeves. The dress has a back zipper and I added self fabric covered buttons to the neckline and made it more open, not as "locked up" as the film original.
I also made a jacket to go with the dress, instead of a shawl. Without a doubt Rose would have had a fancy shawl, you would not have gone outdoors in public in the 1910's without some sort of cover up. The jacket is a rich chocolate brown rayon crepe and I trimmed it up a bit with chainstitch embroidery in a color matching the dress. This was relatively fast to do.
