A mid 20's evening dress...
I finally had some time to try my hand at a mid 20's evening or dinner creation. The dress has multiple layers and is completely lined. Sleeveless would have been "in" for a formal dress like this and the hemline coordinates with a lot of fashion prints I have seen from around 1923-24. The beaded fringe around the hip is by the yard, the rest of the beads are hand applied czech glass seed and bugle. As with a lot of 20's dresses, no emphasis on bust or waist shape is given, the dress "hangs" straight down.
Dark lavender velvet and hematite pearls...
This dress was made using a combo of several materials. The sleeves and side skirt parts are actually 2 layers, using 2 different shades of lavender colored sheers. The center front and back was made using a very soft, longer napped velvet, probably rayon, the exact fabric contents are unknown. There's no closure, this is slip over. The hip is shaped by heavily beaded bands of dull satin. I used hematite pearls in the beading of black bugle beads, seedbeads and amethyst. This can currently only be made in a size 6-8 and keep in mind I no longer work with velvet, so the materials will have to be different.
